Dark Thoughts

What do you seek in this nightly darkness?
Awe-struck by the dark wonders
You step into it with unsure steps.
Deep within, doubts nag you
As your steps are under societal scrutiny.
All around, you see illuminated jovial facades,
Masking their thoughts and names.
Serenity seems to mark them;
Yet you start to wonder if that’s so,
For they hide behind their neon faces,
Faces that mask a million emotions.
Questions pour in and finally, you ask yourself
“Should I be scared?”
